Hello
My name is Sarah, I'm a professional Shiatsu practitioner, based in Carterknowle, Sheffield. I completed my shiatsu diploma in 2003 with the Northern School of Shiatsu - a wonderful three-year training with many skilled teachers from all over the UK. I've since supported many clients with various conditions - back ache, anxiety, post-natal depression, and stress-related illnesses to name a few.
I would say my shiatsu journey really began in India in 1999, where I received my first treatment and was blown away by the mental and emotional peace and clarity I experienced that day, despite struggling with challenging circumstances and health problems. Lately, my journey through menopause has had me studying it's challenges from the inside out and I've been fascinated by it in terms of wellbeing.
I trained in my 20s and now in my 50s shiatsu has been a lifelong 'friend', repeatedly connecting me to my body and the wisdom our bodies hold. The deeper I go the more I'm able to support my clients to deepen their relationship with their bodies too.

Perhaps I'm biased, but to me it's the most relaxing and nurturing form of body work, that allows us to have a greater ease with life - promoting resilience, connection and strength.

How shiatsu works
Our bodies are such wonderful instruments and I love that shiatsu offers the body a 'voice' through the subtle diagnostic mapping system. It 'tells' the practitioner where to move, what to treat and aligns the receiver to tap into a deeper relationship with their body too.
Shiatsu is similar to acupuncture, in that it works with the body's vital energy known as Ki or Chi. Chi flows through pathways in the body called meridians. Along these meridians are acupressure points that are stimulated through pressure, palming or stretching techniques.

An initial diagnosis informs me which areas are depleted or full. I personally gravitate to Masunaga's map in the abdomen since it is hugely linked to 'this moment', but I also diagnose through the back and apply knowledge from Traditional Chinese Medicine through my questions at the beginning of your session.

What you receive is an individually tailored treatment according to your needs and ailments. It's a rich and deeply relaxing experience, that connects you to a sense of health and wholeness and a deeper awareness of your own body, making way for a healthier and happy life.
